Looking for fresh ways to use your background stamps? Today, I’m sharing four easy and creative techniques using the Peaceful View background stamp by Stampin’ Up! However, these techniques work beautifully with any background stamp in your collection!
One of the most common challenges when working with background stamps is getting even ink coverage across the entire image. My secret weapon? I use a stamp positioning tool. While there are several on the market, I used the MISTI Stamping Tool in the video. It allows you to restamp as many times as needed to build up the perfect impression—no more wasted cardstock.
For all four card examples, I started with a piece of cardstock measuring 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”. Once I finished stamping, I trimmed it down to 3 3/4” x 5” to layer on my card front. Here’s a fun tip: I used the trimmed-off portion to decorate the inside of the card. This creates a cohesive, polished look.
Technique #1: Classic Ink Pad Stamping

For this first card, I kept it simple by stamping Pecan Pie ink on Crumb Cake cardstock. This warm, earthy combo really brings out the details in the Peaceful View stamp. Classic ink pads are great for quick, consistent impressions—especially with the help of a stamp positioner!
Technique #2: Ink Blending With Daubers

To add a more custom, artistic effect, I used daubers to apply Pecan Pie and Mossy Meadow ink directly to the stamp. This method let me build color gradually and blend the shades. I continued blending until I was happy with the result. I finished the look by coloring the little bird with a Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker. This added a perfect pop of red!
Technique #3: Heat Embossing in White

Next up, I went for a striking look using VersaMark Ink and WOW Basic White Embossing Powder on Secret Sea card stock. Heat embossing gives background stamps incredible dimension. Also, the white on colored cardstock makes the Peaceful View image really stand out.
Technique # 4: Tone-on-Tone with Clear Embossing

For the final card, I wanted a subtle tone-on-tone effect. I stamped with VersaMark Ink on Lost Lagoon cardstock and heat embossed with WOW Clear Embossing Powder. You can also skip the embossing and simply let the VersaMark ink dry for a soft watermark look.
