Looking for a fresh take on the traditional easel card? Today’s project features a Backbend Easel Card. It is a clever and interactive fun fold that’s sure to wow your friends and fellow crafters. With just a standard 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” card base, a few nested rectangles, and a strip of acetate, you’ll create a dimensional display card. It will have an elegant frame that appears to float.
What is a Backbend Easel Card?
A Backbend Easel Card is a variation of a standard easel card with a twist—literally! After folding the card base in half, you’ll cut a window from the front panel using a rectangular die. Next, fold the front panel back on itself to mimic the look of a Z-fold. The real magic happens when you attach frames created with the Textured Frames Dies to the front fold. The frames are supported with a clear acetate strip. It gives the card an airy, floating effect that’s both modern and unique.

How to Create A Backbend Easel Card

To bring the design to life, I used the Gallery of Blooms Bundle to create a stunning floral focal point. The floral images were colored with Stampin’ Blends in Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, and Lost Lagoon. These colors added warmth and depth to the card. These vibrant blooms were arranged and adhered to the corners of the frame. They beautifully frame the design without obstructing the view through the window. For the sentiment, I used a greeting from the More Messages Bundle. It was adhered directly to the acetate strip in the center of the card. This gives it the appearance of floating effortlessly between the frame borders.

On the inside of the card, I added a functional and decorative touch by creating a pocket using the Textured Notes Dies. This little pocket is perfect for holding a mini message. I used a smaller coordinating die to craft a matching note card with a stamped sentiment. This tucks perfectly inside the pocket. This added detail makes the card even more interactive and provides a lovely surprise for the recipient.
