Today, I am anxious to share an easy faux wood burning technique to use in your paper crafting and card making. This technique requires very little in the way of supplies: stamp set, watercolor paper, ink pad and water painter or paint brush. The watercolor paper adds a subtle texture, while the faux wood burned look of the image adds interest, depth and a vintage look to your cards.

Two examples in which the Faux Wood Burning Technique was used to add interest and vintage look to cards.

Today’s post coordinates with the Connect To Create Series. The video demonstrates how to easily do the faux wood burning technique. Further down in the post, you will see each of the cards including measurements and supplies. Leave me a comment. I would love which one you like best!

Faux Wood Burning with Celebrate Sunflowers

When doing a faux wood burning technique, you want to use a dark brown ink to stamp your image. For the first card, I used the Celebrate Sunflowers Stamp set and stamped the image with Early Expresso. My card base is So Saffron layered with So Saffron Designer Series Paper. You may notice “reddish” tones that resulted from “pulling” the color with the paint brush. This is normal as it is part of the make up of the brown colors.

Faux Wood Burning with Vintage Tools

My second card uses the Vintage Tools Stamp set. I chose this stamp set for two reasons. First, the faux wood burning technique is perfect for masculine cards. Second, the stamp set is comprised of traditional craftsman tools and the technique adds to the vintage look of the stamped images. Again, I used Early Expresso. On both cards, I used my Stamparatus. This allowed me to stamp the images several times providing a dark outline for my technique.
