If you’ve ever handed someone a gift card and wished it felt more personal, this project is going to be your new favorite. Today, we’re making a unique gift card holder using the Spellbinders Essential Envelope, along with the Essential Envelope Everyday and Christmas Add-Ons. These dies make it easy to turn a practical gift into a handmade keepsake!
Whether you’re crafting for birthdays, holidays, graduations, teacher gifts, or special celebrations, this unique gift card holder design adds that heartfelt, handmade touch without taking hours to create.

Why This Is the Perfect Unique Gift Card Holder
Sure, you could give a gift card in a plain envelope—but this design turns an ordinary gift into something thoughtful, dimensional, and memorable. With this design, you have a truly unique holder for your gift cards.
By pairing the Essential Envelope with these adorable Add-Ons, you can customize your unique gift card holder for ANY occasion. Here, I added mine to the front of an A2 card base. This allowed me to give a thoughtful greeting card, in addition, to a gift card!

How to Build the Essential Envelope Base
- Die-cut the envelope base using heavyweight cardstock.
- Fold on the score lines—the die does the work for you.
- Using liquid glue or double-sided tape, adhere the side tabs to form the envelope shape.
- Next, fold the bottom tab up and adhere to the back of the envelope.
- Add a coordinating tabbled insert for a polished finish.
This creates the perfect base for your unique gift card holder.
How to Build the Additional Pocket for the Insert

I chose to add my envelope to the front of an A2 card base and add an additional pocket to the insert. This allowed me to place my gift card in the insert for a nice surprise and add a personalized message on the inside of the A2 card base.
- Using the Essential Envelope Everyday Add-Ons, die cut the scooped pocket cover.
- Score 1/4″ on the right and left sides of the pocket cover.
- Fold on the score lines.
- Add adhesive along the edge of the side folds and bottom of the pocket cover.
- Adhere the pocket cover to the bottom of the insert. This contributes to creating a unique structure for your card holder.
Tips for Making Your Gift Card Holder Truly Unique
- Add to an A2 card base for adding a personalized greeting
- Try monochromatic color palettes
- Use embossing folders for extra texture
- Add small tags or sentiment strips
- Create an additional pocket for the tabbed insert to enhance the uniqueness of your holder.
These little touches take your unique gift card holder from simple to stunning.
