Today, I am excited to share what I think is one of the easiest fun folds, ever! The Barn Door Fold is not only easy and fun to make, but it is adaptable to just about any stamp set and occasion! Often, you see this fun fold made with a circle punch or die to cut out a partial circle. However, you can use other shapes to add interest and change it up. Truly, the sky is the limit with this fun fold card design.
Cheerful Daisies Barn Door Fun Fold
Below, is the card that I made during my video tutorial. I used the Cheerful Daisies Bundle, Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper and a 2″ Circle Punch. This particular template, uses a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of card stock scored at 5 1/2″. Here, I used Daffodil Delight for the card base. Next, I cut out 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ from the top front of my card. This creates the “barn door.” I, then, added a 2 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper to the lower portion of my card front. To cut out a half circle, I used the 2″ Circle Punch.
For the inside, I used a 4′ x 5 1/4″ layer of Basic White card stock. I used Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lolly and Garden Green for the daisies. Here, I chose to die cut the daisy and “pop” it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. During construction of the card, I had gotten ink in the upper left corner of the inside layer. To “cover up” my mistake, I stamped another daisy in the corner and added some sequins.
One of my favorite features of the Barn Door Fold is the visibility of, both, sentiments when the card is open!
Alternate Version of Cheerful Daisies Barn Door Fold
Here, I made the exact same card, but instead of “cutting out” a circle, I left the barn door, intact. I used a fluted edged die from Thoughtful Expressions with Daffodil Delight. Next, I cut a circle from Basic White using the Stylish Shapes Dies. After adding my stamped images, I adhered, both, layers directly to the right side of the barn door. I felt this was an easy way to “step up” the card!
Charming Duck Pond Barn Door Fold
This cute Barn Door Fold was made using the Charming Duck Pond Bundle and Lily Pond Lane Designer Series Paper. I used Peach Pie for the card base. Here, I punched out the circle from the center. I stamped the duck directly on the Basic White inside layer. For interest, I added a 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ strip of Pretty Peacock across the bottom of the Designer Series Paper. Finally, I die cut lily pads from Granny Apple Green. Instead of stamping the frog on a lily pad on Basic White and coloring, I chose to stamp on Granny Apple Green and use Pretty Peacock Stampin’ Blends to add color to the frog.
Hearts & Hugs Barn Door Fold
Here, I added a layer of Basic Black to the front and inside of the card. I used the Hearts & Hugs Bundle and Full of Life Designer Series Paper. I added a 1/2″ strip of Designer Series Paper to the inside layer to carry through the sunburst design. For my focal point, I chose this darling little guy sending a hug with outstretched arms!
Here, I created an easy masculine birthday card, using simply stamps, ink and paper! I used Misty Moonlight card stock with a piece of Smoky Slate from the 2024 Neutrals Designer Series Paper. In place of the 2″ Circle punch, I used the Heartfelt Hexagon Punch. I thought this added interest and variety to the card design. Experiment with the “barn door” using other shapes from dies or punches for your “cut out.” I used the Hooray for Surprises Stamp set for the birthday cake and stamped directly on the inside layer.
