How do you add texture to your cards? The first thing that comes to mind is dry embossing a layer of card stock with an embossing folder. But, did you know there are several other easy ways in which you can add texture to cards? So, today, I thought we would take a look at a few cards and talk about some easy ways in which you can add texture.
Adding Texture With Background Dies and Embossing folders
In the card, above, I used background dies and an embossing folder to add texture to my card. As a result, I, also, added dimension and interest! Background dies are, usually, a single metal plate that perforates and/or die cuts a background layer for your card. Stampin’ Up! has several background dies: Brilliant Backgrounds, Dots & Spots, Gorgeous Gardens and Patchwork Pieces, just to name a few.
Here, I used one of the dies from Brilliant Backgrounds. This particular die, not only die cuts tiny holes, but perforates a pattern onto the card stock. I added a layer of Parakeet Party behind the die cut layer, thereby, adding dimension, in addition to texture.
I used the Hello Ladybug Bundle to stamp my images and punch out my ladybug. After fussy cutting the leaf, I dry embossed it using the Splatter 3D Embossing Folder. I loved the embossed effect on the leaf and it added so much more to the design of my card. To finish up, I embellished my card front by added 2022 – 2024 In Color Dots, thereby, adding a variety of textures.
Adding Texture With Background Stamps and Heat Embossing
Another way to add texture to your cards is through the use of background stamps and heat embossing. Heat embossing, whether an image or a sentiment, always adds some texture to your handmade cards, But, heat embossing with a background stamp, “packs a punch!” Now, not all background stamps lend themselves to heat embossing, but many do!
Above, I used the Sketched Plaid Cling Stamp Set to create a textured background for my card. After stamping with Versamark Ink, I heat embossed using Gold Embossing Powder. What an easy way to add texture, yet, elegance to my design.
Additionally, I heat embossed the outline of the daisy and the sentiment. Additional texture was added by the die cuts of the various greenery and leaves. All easy ways to add texture to your cards!
