Today’s card is called a Diamond Pop-Up Fun Fold! The design incorporates a subtle surprise on the inside of the card, a center diamond pop-up! This is an easy fun fold to make that will surely “wow” the recipient.
Diamond pop-up fun fold design
I chose to use new Online Exclusives to make my card: the Otterly Amazing Bundle and the Otterly Adorable 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. I love the colors and playful otters in the paper. Several of the images in the Designer Series Paper can be cut using the Otterly Amazing Dies from the bundle.
I started off with a standard 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ card base of Lost Lagoon. Next, I cut three 2 1/2″ squares for the diamonds. Two of the squares were layered with the Otterly Adorable Designer Series Paper. Take note in cutting the layers if the patterned paper has a directional pattern. Here, I felt I was safe in using the pattern I did as seaweed and growth around a pond, typically, grows in every direction. For the third diamond, I stamped my greeting and die cut an otter from the Designer Series Paper. I had forgotten that there were coordinating gems, Riverside Irregular Pearls. As a result, I used the Iridescent Faceted Gems as an embellish for the card front.
Creating the “Surprise” Diamond Pop-Up
It is important to remember, the “surprise” is a subtle pop-up. The pop-up portion is created using a 5″ x 5″ piece of Pretty Peacock scored at 3/4″, 1 1/2″ and 2 5/8″. Prior to folding on the score lines, I created the diamond shape by cutting from the center of the square to the 2 5/8″ score line. Next, I burnished each of the score lines and adhered the square directly below the score line of the card base.
I used a matching piece of Designer Series Paper for the inside top portion of the card. For the center diamonds, I used a 2 3/4″ square of Lost Lagoon. To add the waves or motion of water, I dry embossed a square of Basic White using the So Swirly Embossing Folder. If using an embossing folder with a directional pattern or design, it is important to emboss the paper as a diamond and not a square. Lastly, I added a pair of die cut otters from the Otterly Adorable Designer Series Paper.
Diamond Pop-Up Fun Fold Sentiment Layer
I used a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Basic White for the inside of my card. This not only provided a layer for the sentiment, but it, also, covered the Pretty Peacock fold attached to the card base. Besides, the subtle pop-up when opening the card, I wanted to be able maintain the diamond pop-up for display. I did that by adding another sentiment and adhering it the layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals. This provided a support for the diamond pop-up, as shown below.
