Today, I wanted to share how to make an Vertical Gate Fold Card. The Vertical Gate Fold is an easy fun fold that allows Designer Series Paper to do the work. But, you can change it up just by using the card base for the top flap or substituting an embossed layer in place of the patterned paper. This fun fold, also, has a focal point. In the card below, I used a die cut circle, but you can, just as easily, use a square or a rectangle. Ready to see how to make this Vertical Gate Fold? Let’s get started!
Vertical Gate Fold Card Design
I am using the Everyday Details Bundle with the Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper for my Vertical Gate Fold card. But, this template is perfect to use with what you already have on hand. I used Misty Moonlight for my card base. I, then, mounted the folded card base on Calypso Coral. Both, of these colors are found in the Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper. Here, I chose two complimentary pieces of Designer Series Paper. But on a second card, below, I used an embossed layer on the top flap.
Typically, when I make a Vertical Gate Fold, I, typically, use a square or rectangle for my focal point. But, today, I decided to switch it up and used the largest circle from the Everyday Details Bundle. After stamping the bird’s nest and coloring it with Stampin’ Blends, I adhered the circle to the upper flap with Multipurpose Glue. You could just as easily use Dimensionals. A key point to remember, here, add adhesive to, only, the back portion of the focal point that will adhere to the top flap.
I die cut the sentiment with the smallest circle and popped it up with Dimensionals. To finish it off, I used the 2022-2024 In- Colors Bakers Twine to make a double bow.
Vertical Gate Fold Inside
The Everyday Details Bundle has some really fun dies. Here, I used one with a strip of 3/4″ Misty Moonlight to create an edge for the inside of my card. I, often, wait to stamp my inside sentiments until I know to whom and why I am sending the card.
In the video below, I demonstrate how to make a Vertical Gate Fold Card. Further down in the post, you will find a second card and downloadable PDF with measurements, supplies and instructions. Leave me a comment as I would love your thoughts the Vertical Gate Fold and Everyday Details Bundle!
Additional CArd
On this Vertical Gate Fold, I used floral image from the Everyday Details Bundle. On the top flap, I used Basic White embossed with the Softly Sophisticated 3D Embossing Folder in place of Designer Series Paper. For the focal point, I used a 2 7/8″ Basic White square and matted it on a 3″ Lost Lagoon. So, you see, the options to change this card up are limitless.
On the inside, I layered a strip of card stock and matching Designer Series Paper. Quick and easy!
