Hello, crafty friends!
Today I’m kicking off a new cardmaking series featuring the Spellbinders Just Add Cake Birthday Cardmaking Kit.
When I first looked through this kit, I was impressed by how many different products and creative possibilities were included. There are dies, stamps, cardstock, embellishments, rub-ons, an embossing folder, shaker supplies, and plenty of playful birthday images.
There was much, too much, inside for just one video! So over the next week or two, I’ll be sharing several projects using the kit. Some will be pre-recorded tutorials, and we’ll also get together for a few LIVE cardmaking sessions.
For our first project, I chose one of the most playful characters in the kit—Chompster!

WATCH THE CHOMPSTER VIDEO TUTORIAL
In today’s video, I’ll give you a closer look inside the Just Add Cake Birthday Card Making Kit before we begin creating our card. I’ll also share how I assembled Chompster and brought all of the card elements together.
MEET CHOMPSTER
Chompster is such a fun layered die set. His big personality makes him perfect for birthday cards for children, teens, and anyone who enjoys a little humor with their celebration.
Layered character dies can sometimes appear complicated when all of the pieces first come out of the package. I find it helpful to organize the pieces before assembling the character and decide which colors I want to use for each layer.
Once the pieces are die-cut, Chompster comes together like a small paper puzzle. Watching his expression appear as the layers are added may be my favorite part!
CREATING THE MONSTER BIRTHDAY CARD
For this card, I made Chompster the star of the design and paired him with coordinating elements from the Just Add Cake kit.
The bright colors and playful details give the card plenty of personality without requiring a complicated layout. Chompster does most of the work, so the remaining elements can be kept simple.
Adding dimension between some of the layers helps the character stand out and gives the finished card a little extra interest. A celebratory sentiment completes the design and makes it ready for a special birthday.

TIPS FOR ASSEMBLING CHOMPSTER
Before you begin die cutting, separate the dies into groups based on the different parts of the character.
Die-cut the main body first, followed by the facial features and smaller accent pieces.
Use a fine-tip glue bottle for the smallest layers.
Refer to the image on the packaging as you assemble the character.
Wait until the character is assembled before deciding whether the card needs additional embellishments. Chompster already adds plenty of personality!

WHY I THINK THIS KIT IS A GREAT VALUE
One of the things I appreciate most about the Just Add Cake Birthday Card Making Kit is the variety.
Instead of receiving supplies for only one style of card, you can mix and match the different dies, stamps, sentiments, cardstock, and embellishments to create many different looks.
Although birthdays are the main theme, several pieces could also be used for congratulations, graduations, anniversaries, milestones, parties, and other happy occasions.
That versatility is exactly what I hope to explore throughout this series. I want to see how many different projects and celebrations we can create from one kit.

MORE JUST ADD CAKE PROJECTS ARE COMING
This Chompster birthday card is only the beginning!
Over the next week or two, I’ll be sharing additional prer-ecorded videos and LIVE cardmaking sessions featuring more products from the kit. We’ll try different card styles, explore more of the included supplies, and look for ways to stretch the kit beyond traditional birthday cards with other supplies on-hand.
Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel and follow me on Facebook and Instagram so you’ll know when the next project is available.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Chompster was such a fun choice for the first project in this series. He has so much personality, and the finished card is playful, cheerful, and ready for a celebration.
