Sympathy cards are one of the hardest cards for me to make. But recently, I made a Heartfelt Sympathy card with Stampin’ Up!’s Seaside Bay Bundle and By The Bay Designer Series Paper (DSP). While many images in the bundle include images of shells, clams and crabs, I found the Sandpiper and her babies to be quite peaceful and comforting. Perfect for a sympathy card.

In designing my sympathy card, I wanted to stay with subtle natural tones found in the By the Bay Designer Series Paper. Thus, I chose Sahara Sand for the base layered with Mint Macaron followed by a layer of the Designer Series Paper. I used the Seaside Bay Dies to cut the Sandpiper image from one the sheets of Designer Series Paper.
To add some interest, I stamped the seashells with Sahara Sand and lightly colored them with Stampin’ Blends. Since I liked the watercolor appearance of the Designer Paper, I chose to die cut the the seagrass using a scrap of DSP rather than card stock. I used a banner from the Stylish Shapes dies for the sentiment. I used the Faux Sea Glass Shapes to add texture and embellish my card.

Below, you will see the card is the same as the one above, except for the Sandpiper. Here, I inked the stamp with Crumb Cake and added highlights using Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker.
