Every year at this time, I need several masculine cards for a variety of occasions: birthdays, graduations, and Father’s Day. Yet, every year, I struggle coming up with masculine card making ideas! For whatever reason, the topic of masculine cards tends to be challenging for many card makers.
With that being said, today, I am participating in the Crafty Collaborations Make It Masculine Blog Hop. The theme for this hop is, simply, masculine card making ideas. The “hop” is made up of Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from around the world. These talented demonstrators love sharing their stamping and crafting ideas to provide you with inspiration. My hope is that you will “hop” along and see a variety of masculine card making ideas!
Inspiration For A Masculine Card
Today, I have chosen to feature the Stampin’ Up! Trusty Tools Stamps & Dies. I chose to use Trusty Tools because my husband is, extremely, handy. It is hard for me to believe that anyone has more tools than he does! Yet, his tools are extremely organized and he uses all of them! So, I guess you could say that my husband was the inspiration for my card!
Trusty Tools Father’s Day Card Design
I used Night of Navy for a standard A2 card base, 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″. Next, I dry embossed a Basic White layer with the Exposed Brick 3D Embossing Folder and adhered it to the front of the card base. To create the peg board, I used the Trusty Tools and Deckled Rectangle Dies.
Since the Trusty Tool Stamp Set requires two-step stamping, I stamped the images of the tools using Tuxedo Black Momento ink. I used Real Red, Crushed Curry, Blueberry Bushel and Pecan Pie for the body of the stamped images. For added interest, I used Silver Foil for the head of the hammer and wrench. The tools were “popped up” using Stampin’ Dimensionals for added dimension. I stamped and matted the sentiment with Night of Navy. I used Adhesive Backed Metallic Gems for embellishing the card front.
Creating the Peg Board
I used a 4″ x 2 1/2″ piece of Crumb Cake with the die from Trusty Tools to create the peg board. Because I wanted a finished look to the board, I die cut a second piece of Crumb Cake using the fourth largest die from Deckled Rectangles. Next, I adhered the die cut with the holes to the deckled rectangle for a finished edge all the way around. I repositioned the die for the peg board in the holes that were already cut and ran it through the Cut & Emboss machine a second time. This gave me the holes in, both, layers.

Card: Inside
For the inside of the card, I stamped the sentiment using Night of Navy on a layer of Basic White. Next, I stamped the tape measure using Tuxedo Black Moment ink and Crushed Curry for the body. I added a few nuts & bolts using Gray Granite.
