Do you ever wonder what you can do with all the scraps from Designer Series Paper or Specialty paper that you have laying around. If so, stick with me as I share an easy way in which you can use them. Today, I want to show you the Starburst Technique, also known as, the Sunburst Technique. The Starburst (Sunburst) Technique is a quick and easy way to produce beautiful backgrounds or focal points to use in your card making and paper crafting. Below, you will see several cards in which I used this technique. The technique is the same, no matter how you plan on using the finished design.

How to do the starburst (sunburst) technique
Supplies are minimal. For each of my samples, I started off with a piece of 4″ x 5 1/4″ Basic White card stock. Next, I chose two different patterns of Designer Series Papers that complimented one another. I cut several 1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ strips from each pattern. Next, I cut the strips on the diagonal, as shown below. The diagonal cut creates “rays” that I will then use to build my Starburst (Sunburst). Once my strips are cut, I simply alternate the patterns adhering the strips to the Basic White layer. After laying all the strips, I trimmed the layer to 3 3/4″ x 5″ to use as a layer on my card. In one of my samples below, you will see I used a circle die from Stylish Shapes to cut a focal point.
